Joining the Oakland University Community in Second Life

Oakland University has its own island in Second Life.

The island is a safe, inviting place to learn, teach, work on projects, play in the sandbox and interact with other Oakland University members.

There is only one requirement to visiting Oakland University's island and that is to join the Oakland University group.

Join the Oakland University group

• Log in to Second Life. At the bottom of your screen you will see a "Search" button. Click that button.

• When the search window opens, make sure that you click the "Mature content" checkbox

• In the "ALL" tab, search for "Oakland University". In your search results, you should see "Oakland University Region," and "Oakland U. Public Member."
  • "Oakland University Region" is the Oakland University Island
  • "Oakland U. Public Member" is the group you need to join to be able to visit the island
  

• Because you have to join the Oakland University group before you can go to Oakland University's island, click on the "Oakland U. Public Member" link in your search results

  

• A window for the group will pop up after you click on the link. Click "Join" to join the group
  • You are now a member of Oakland University's Second Life community!
